Renate Rosengarten is the founder of Mycosafe and is currently its Managing Director. Her academic career as a microbiologist with research focus on mycoplasmas took her to the School of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, the University of Missouri-Columbia and the Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem. Since 1996 she is Professor of Bacteriology and Hygiene and Head of the Institute of Bacteriology, Mycology and Hygiene (IBMH) at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna.
Her research interest is in the field of mycoplasma surface antigenic variation, mycoplasma-host interactions, mycoplasma virulence factors and detection of mycoplasmas as cell culture contaminants and as important agents of clinical disease in humans and animals. She is the author of numerous scientific publications on mycoplasmas. The results of her research on mycoplasma surface antigenic variation have found their way into several advanced textbooks and review articles on microbial pathogenesis. She is a member of numerous professional organisations and currently holds the Chair position of the International Organization for Mycoplasmology (IOM). By working as a consultant to biopharmaceutical and biotechnological companies and by organising prestigious, international meetings in the area of mycoplasmology, she has established a range of worldwide contacts. |
